Insurance company in the North Central US region has a need for a Vice President and Chief Actuary. The incumbent is responsible for planning and directing actuarial functions related to all lines of business to achieve corporate goals of profitability and premium growth, pricing of new and existing Individual, Small Group and Large Group products, and determining the appropriate value of reserves and non-ledger items for corporate financial statements.The duties of the role will include: Responsibility for the company’s actuarial function, including participating in the design of new products and determining appropriate premium rates and structures for all product lines, assuring the adequacy of existing products’ premium rates and recommending renewal rate increases as well as new business rates, monitoring the performance and profitability of existing blocks and provides assistance in achieving underwriting profits, overseeing calculation of various non-ledger items and reserves used in corporate financial statements, coordinating activities of actuarial consultants, and working with reinsurers on various corporate issues, testing Company’s compliance with small employer insurance reform legislation, including preparing and authorizing annual compliance certification. The incumbent will participate in strategic planning, development of corporate goals and general overall operations of the Company under the direction of senior management. Additionally, the role will involve providing advice and guidance on a variety of corporate decisions regarding Company operations, including product development and competitive research, and enlisting the cooperation of other departments concerning activities related to the successful attainment of Company goals, objectives and priorities.

Candidates should have: 5 - 10 years progressively responsible actuarial experience, including a minimum of 3 years staff management experience, in-depth knowledge of health and life (group) insurance products, concepts, benefits and underwriting, in-depth knowledge of Federal and State regulations pertaining to health and life (group) insurance, working knowledge of health and life (group) insurance procedures, marketing and company operations. Excellent leadership, motivational, analytical, problem-solving, negotiation, project and time management, presentation, interpersonal and communication skills are also needed for this role.
