Chief Actuary/Underwriter position for Hedge Fund subsidiary available in New York/Connecticut. Decision making responsibility regarding final underwriting, pricing and review of individual life settlement cases; review proprietary pricing and underwriting models and methodology, provide recommendations regarding improvements in the model, methodology and processes; review and make recommendations with respect to enhancing the existing financial criteria and assumptions; become familiar with the economics of each transaction and participate in modeling and evaluating new opportunities and transactions as needed. Understand and review financial management of existing portfolio and transactions and underlying assumptions used to make pricing decisions, project cash flows, and determine yields; participate in the review, modeling and negotiation of external financing and leverage facilities; responsibility for managing underwriting team, workflow and interaction between underwriting and case management; oversight of underwriting team, allocation of work, ensuring smooth underwriting, pricing and review process, and training underwriting team underwriters; assist with monthly valuations and report functions; assist with external consulting firm’s review of pricing methodology and participate in responding to queries; ensure adequate controls and documentation is in place to capture methodologies and discretionary input of reviewers; provide input to and participate in the quarterly valuations and risk management review of the transactions and market trends and analysis; review the underlying technology that supports the pricing, underwriting and valuation process and make recommendations regarding how to improve the system and functionality; work with management on identifying new market opportunities in the life settlement and mortality arbitrage space; general recommendations to improve the effectiveness of existing business as well as new businesses/markets; build on mortality experience and internal capabilities to ensure that Entities are well placed to compete and manage shifts in the market place, in line with business aspirations; support the management, sales and marketing process while ensuring the financial integrity. Ideal candidate will have product development experience including 1-2 years of experience in pricing life settlement policies and exposure to the Life Settlement and Premium Financing market.
