This New Jersey-based position with a national consulting firm provides support to a lead actuary in performing actuarial consulting services to clients. The Senior Consultant/Retirement Actuary is responsible for the timely preparation of all phases of actuarial valuations and projects. He or she will train, supervise and manage Associates and Consultants. This individual must exemplify the ability to work successfully with mid-level client contacts for all types and sizes of clients and will also be responsible for Maintaining significant contact with clients of all sizes both over the telephone and in client meetings. Other responsibilities include: supervising all phases of actuarial valuations and special projects; coordinating and reviewing the preparation and results of valuations and cost estimates; consulting with other HR & IS lines of businesses to assist in valuations and other special projects; providing Principal/Retirement Actuary with up-to-date information on the status of projects; keeping abreast of latest trends and developments in the pension actuarial field; supervising actuarial staff, including planning, coordinating, directing, and reviewing job duties; handling special projects; and keeping abreast of trends and developments in the pension actuarial field. Requirements: 4-8 years of actuarial experience; Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field; ASA/EA, EA or minimally the first four SOA exams or equivalent; strong knowledge of ERISA (laws, rules and regulations), financial accounting standards and requirements, actuarial principles and methods and the establishment of appropriate actuarial assumptions; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to participate in client meetings; supervisory experience involving organizing, delegating and overseeing the work of consultants and senior associates; strong client and project management skills; ability to develop plans/timelines, meet deadlines and complete work product within budget; experience and interest in managing, mentoring, training and supervising junior staff and assisting them with their professional development; and an ability to communicate effectively with practice leadership and lead consultants as well as colleagues and associates/project team members.
